The Polacca appeared in the Mediterranean at the beginning of the eighteenth century and was used either as an escort, shipping or cargo ship. The Venetian fleet in the Adriatic Sea service of the Polacca to protect the shipping lanes of Venice against Dalmatian, Greek and Turkish pirates.
